Pitchford J joins Court of Appeal

Pitchford J has sat in the Queens Bench Division of the High Court since September 2000. He will take up the appointment from January 12.

Scott Baker LJ steps down after eight years in the Court of Appeal, a stint which included sitting as assistant deputy coroner at the inquest into the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Al-fayed.

Pitchford J was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1969 and was made a recorder in 1987. He became deputy judge of the High Court in 1995, and presiding judge of the Wales & Chester Circuit in 2002.

In 2002 he received ‘minor facial injuries’ after being punched in the face by a man in the High Court after the judge had turned down an appeal bid.
