Pinsents seals JV with Singapore's MPillay
Pinsent Masons has launched a joint venture in Singapore that will allow it to practise local law and share profits.

The firm has entered into a joint venture with local firm MPillay and will now be able to market and bill under a single brand.
In addition, MPillay’s managing partner Mohan Pillay will become a partner at Pinsents, while the remainder of his team will become consultants and counsel at the UK firm.
The granting of a Joint Law Venture Licence by Singapore’s attorney general means that Pinsents will be able to practise both international law and specific areas of local law with the exclusion of certain areas such as conveyancing and family law.
Pinsents has operated an associate relationship with MPillay since 2007 with a practice focused on projects, construction, arbitration, disputes and project finance.
Senior partner Chris Mullen said that it was “quite unusual in that it’s a highly sectorally focused offering, it’s not full-service.”
Other international firms that have operations in Singapore include Allen & Overy, Baker & McKenzie, Hill Dickinson, Norton Rose and Watson Farley & Williams.
