Pinsent Curtis's five-year search for new premises to house its Leeds operation is finally over.It has bought a 25-year lease on 1 Park Row from NatWest Group Property for an undisclosed sum. Staff will move in the autumn. The employment specialist first decided to investigate alternative premises in the mid-1990s.Malcolm Lloyd, managing partner of the Leeds practice, says: "We have been looking for some time."We did not want to take just anywhere. We wanted somewhere that was prominent and bang in the centre of Leeds."We have examined more than 35 sites."Pinsents has decided to do away with individual offices in favour of open-planning, even for senior partners, including Lloyd himself.Says Lloyd: "[The new premises] give us an opportunity to go back and think about how we operate as a business, for example, using open-plan space, which is very unusual for a law firm."We are trying to develop a workplace that gives privacy when needed but also allows [our staff] to feel part of a team."The managing partner will not have an office. The team leaders have got to manage from the front."The building will hold more than 325 lawyers and staff. Pinsents will sub-let nearly 30,000 sq ft of the 78,500 sq ft building and take it back when needed.
