Pilots fight for property rights

Associated British Ports Holdings (ABPH) is heading for a High Court showdown over property it is alleged to have commandeered and sold in Humberside. The association is being sued by Hull-based association Humber Pilots, which is seeking declarations, court orders and damages in a claim valued at more than £200,000. The pilots, who can date their origins back to 1512, claim that the land on which the Pilot Office stands was conveyed to their then Commodore in 1820 and that the cost of constructing the building on it was provided by the pilots. They claim that in 1998 ABPH forced them out of the Pilot Office, and relocated them in a Portakabin. The pilots are represented by Sandersons in Kingston upon Hull.
