Arrrrrrrrr, shiver me timbers. If it wasn't Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer that raised the Jolly Roger on not one, but two boats when out sailing last weekend. With notions of sportsmanship and fair play blown out of the water, the rigs, captained by David 'Hook' Higgins, were more concerned with the yo ho hos. There was more than one bottle of rum at a regatta that saw more than 700 lawyers competing.
Tulkinghorn spoke to Higgins as soon as he returned to dry land. He reported that he is now considering giving up the corporate high life for a new career as Johnny Depp's body double in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Freshfields came an impressive second and third in its class, but Tulkinghorn is given to understand that Linklaters might take issue with the rankings, given that Crew Freshfields resorted to throwing scotch eggs at their Silk Street rivals.
It was decided beforehand that all crew had to don pirate outfits (parrots optional) for the week-end. No news as yet on whether managing partner Ted Burke was made to walk the plank.
Next week: the Mourant crew dressed as superheroes.
