•Sidley Austin has hired David Went as a senior associate in its London EU competition team. Went joins from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.
•Clifford Chance has taken on Debra Counsell as of counsel in the energy, infrastructure and projects group. Counsell joins the Paris office from Australian firm DLA Phillips Fox.
•Hammonds has hired Nick Richards as its new business development director. Richards joins from Maples and Calder.
•Addleshaw Goddard insolvency partner Louise Verrill has become the first female president of the Insolvency Lawyers' Association. Verrill was previously the first female president of the Insolvency Practitioners Association.
•Cardiff-based Capital Law has hired Joga Singh and Nia Thomas as solicitors in its employment group. Singh joins from FWD Law in Newport and Thomas joins from PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal in London.
•DLA Piper has brought in marine insurance specialist David McKie as a partner in its litigation and arbitration group's shipping team. McKie joins from insurance and reinsurance firm Elborne Mitchell, where he was a partner.
•TLT Solicitors has hired Will Atkinson and Emma Hardy to its banking and financial services litigation team. Atkinson, who joins the firm as an associate, was previously at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Hardy joins as a solicitor from Clarke Willmott.
•Property firm Dixon Law has hired Robert Kelly as a partner. Kelly joins from Leeds-based Milners.
•Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has brought back Kenneth Mehlman as a partner in its Washington DC office. Mehlman is the former chairman of the Republican National Committee.
•Williamsons Solicitors has promoted Jim Suthers to the partnership. Suthers is now one of four partners in the firm's personal injury team.
•Covington & Burling has hired Mace Rosenstein as a partner in the firm's Washington DC office. Rosenstein joins from Hogan & Hartson. He will also serve as co-chair of the communications and media practice group.
•Norton Rose has hired Mike Dunn as a partner in its US corporate finance practice. Dunn joins the London office from Latham & Watkins, where he was a senior associate.
•Hadens has hired Lorraine Adams as a solicitor in its employment group from Rowley Ashworth. Maria Nicol and Michelle Ensor have also been promoted to associates in the commercial property team.
