•Nick Cherryman has been promoted to the partnership at US firm Bryan Cave. Cherryman practises international litigation and arbitration in the firm's London office.
•Field Fisher Waterhouse has hired three new members for its corporate group. James Shaw joins as an assistant from Speechly Bircham, Mark Poczman joins as a consultant from PWC Legal and Nicholas Heap joins as an assistant from Cornhill Asset Management.
•O'Melveny & Myers has made up Portia Ku as a partner in its Shanghai office. She specialises in capital markets, M&A and venture capital financing.
•3 Verulam Buildings has taken on Sandy Shandro, dean of University College London (UCL) faculty of laws. Shandro was head of the global restructuring and insolvency group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer prior to joining UCL in September 2007.
•US firm Dewey & LeBoeuf has hired arbitration lawyer Gillian Lemaire as senior counsel in its Paris office. She was previously a partner in the Paris office of Dechert Price & Rhoads.
•Specialist energy and shipping firm Curtis Davis Garrard has promoted Rob Jardine-Brown to the partnership.
•Boyes Turner has promoted Rachel Fitzpatrick to the partnership in its Thames Valley corporate practice. Amanda Cantwell has also joined Boyes Turner's corporate group as an associate from Allen & Overy.
•Jonathan Marshall has joined Burnetts in Carlisle as a partner in construction from Newcastle's Ward Hadaway, where he was also a partner.
•Hempsons has recruited five staff: Tim Saunders joins the commercial department as an assistant from Tilly Bailey Irvine; Julia Roberts joins the employment team as an assistant from Halliwells in Manchester; Wai-Cheung Pang joins the construction team as an assistant from Eric Wright Group, where he was an in-house lawyer; Jill Baker joins the firm in Harrogate as a business development manager from Horwath Clark Whitehill; and Emma Cross joins the firm in Manchester as a business development manager from DLA Piper.
•Lovells has recruited senior consultant Richard Tan, who was formerly a senior partner with Lee & Lee, to its Singapore office's international arbitration practice. Tan is joined by of counsel Chung Nian and associate Cheryl Fu, both also from Lee & Lee.
•Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal has hired the former US ambassador to Chile, Gabriel Guerra-Mondragón, as a senior adviser in the firm's Washington DC-based public law and policy strategies group.
•Welsh firm Hugh James has recruited Rachael Rees-Jones as business development director. She was previously at Leo Abse and Cohen.
•Australian firm Freehills has appointed Mark Rigotti as managing partner. He previously headed the firm's corporate group.
•The Bristol office of insurance broker Lockton has appointed Ben Waterton as a director in its professions division focusing on professional indemnity. Waterton was formerly with Aon.
•Deacons has hired partner Tricia Hobson into its Sydney practice from Ebsworth & Ebsworth, where she was also a partner.
•Loeb & Loeb has hired Douglas Lichtman as the firm's first scholar in residence. Lichtman is a tenured professor of law at UCLA, where his research focuses on patent and copyright law.
•Employment specialist Jonathan Stokes of Jonathan Stokes Solicitors has joined Chester-le-Street firm Gordon Brown Associates as a partner.
