Davis Polk & Wardwell has continued its English-law hiring spree by snaring a corporate partner from Herbert Smith Freehills.

Corporate partner Will Pearce has resigned from Herbert Smith Freehills and is set to join Davis Polk’s burgeoning English law practice in London. Davis Polk launched its English law practice in January when it hired corporate partner Simon Witty from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
Katten Muchin Rosenman has hired former Norton Rose associate and UK financial services regulatory attorney Tim Aron as a partner in its London office.
US firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has hired private equity expert Derek Baird from Allen & Overy (A&O) in London. Baird will join Simpson Thacher as a partner in its London corporate practice. He was a partner and global co-head of A&O’s private equity group.
SJ Berwin has added to its City corporate practice with the hire of Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW) CIS specialist Alex Woodfield as a partner. Woodfield founded and headed FFW’s CIS focus group covering Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan and specialises in transactions for clients in the region, including sovereign funds, major oil companies and high-profile businessmen, with a focus on energy and natural resources.
Couchmans has added Paolo Lombardi to its specialist sports law practice as a consultant. Lombardi is the former head of Fifa’s disciplinary and governance, spending eight years with football’s world governing body. He left Fifa in August 2010 to set up his own consultancy, SportsTeam, and has now joined Couchmans’ London office.
Lester Aldridge has hired two new associates, ex-Kingsley Napley senior solicitor Martin Pratt and former Holman Fenwick Willan senior associate Rachel Butlin, and promoted two solicitors, Alexandros Bilionis and Charlotte Jones and legal executive Michelle Day to the role of associate.
Cartwright King has added solicitors Julia Brown and Amrit Hunjit to its family law department. Brown joins from Flint Bishop where she was a solicitor and Hunjit was a trainee solicitor at the same firm.
Two solicitors have been promoted to partner level by Yorkshire firm Gordons. Jonathan Asquez, of the firm’s corporate team, and Simon Mydlowski, from the commercial property team, have joined the partnership.
Dickinson Dees has expanded its real estate teams in Leeds and London with the hire of solicitors David Cole and Paul Hunter. Both were solicitors with Pinsent Masons in Leeds. The firm has also promoted eight to associate in its Newcastle and Leeds offices. They are: Ian Hellawell, Sarah Willshire and Mark Jackson (real estate); Sarah Thompson (public services); Tom Pringle and Ruth Thompson (corporate recovery); Lucy Pringle (commercial); and Vicky McCombe (construction).
Glaisyers partner and road traffic accident head Craig Budsworth is the new chairman of the national Motor Accident Solicitors Society.
Darbys has hired three commercial property solicitors. Quentin Duckworth was previously head of commercial property at Russell & Russell, Samantha Mowlah was a commercial property solicitor with Bowcock Cuerden and Claire Naylor was an associate at DLA Piper.
Ianika Tzankova has joined BarentsKrans as a partner. She is a Dutch expert on mass claim dispute resolution. Tzankova moves from NautaDutilh where she was a senior associate.
Juan Pablo Correa, formerly a litigation partner at Garrigues, has joined CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo’s new Barcelona office.
Field Fisher Waterhouse’s German managing partner Joachim Feldges has quit the firm for partnership at Allen & Overy. Feldges joins A&O as a partner in Munich, less than two years after moving to FFW with three other partners from US firm Howrey.
Norton Rose has appointed Pawel Bajno as a partner in its corporate practice in Warsaw. Pawel was previously a partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf.
Luxembourg firm Arendt & Medernach has added to its corporate capabilities with the hire of a partner from Linklaters’ Luxembourg office, Laurent Schummer. Schummer joins Arendt after six years as a partner at Linklaters, having joined legacy firm De Bandt van Hecke Lagae & Loesch as an associate.
Former associate attorney-general in the US Department of Justice Thomas Perrelli has rejoined Jenner & Block as a partner and head of the firm’s government controversies and public policy litigation practice group in Washington DC.
Kaye Scholer has added partner Terri Mazur to its litigation practice in New York. Mazur joins from Mayer Brown, where she was a partner.
Edwards Wildman Palmer has recruited Michael King as a partner in the litigation department, based in Chicago. He joins from Neal Gerber Eisenberg, where he was also a partner.
Morgan Lewis has taken a four-partner white-collar crime team from White & Case. It is led by George Terwilliger, former partner and head of the global white-collar practice at White & Case and three ex-White & Case partners: Daniel Levin, Matthew Miner and Robert Bittman.
Anthony de Fazekas has joined Norton Rose’s IP team as a partner in Toronto. He moves from Miller Thomson, where he was a partner.
London-based disputes partner Richard Kiddell has relocated to Dubai as part of Hogan Lovells’ Middle East strategy.
Duane Morris & Selvam has added director Jamie Benson and special counsel James Wong to its corporate practice in its Singapore office. Benson joins from Dorsey & Whitney in London and Wong from Crescent Advisors in Singapore.
