  • Mills & Reeve has appointed three solicitors to its insurance group. They are James Melvin and David Roche, who join the London office from Davies Lavery, and Kate Ayres, who joins from Berrymans Lace Mawer. Philip Lumb also joins the firm’s Norwich professional negligence team from Reynolds Porter Chamberlain.

  • Michelmores Solicitors has hired Philip Ryley to head the firm’s new financial services and markets practice. Ryley was formerly head of financial services regulation at Bristol-based TLT Solicitors.

  • Kingsfords Solicitors has hired Rebecca Irwin as an assistant in its commercial services team. Irwin arrives from Mowll & Mowll Solicitors in Dover.

  • Bond Pearce has hired Jon Wall as a partner in its banking and commercial dispute resolution team from Norton Rose.

  • BCL Burton Copeland has promoted Paul Morris to its partnership. Morris specialises in criminal litigation and defending heavyweight and complex serious crime.

  • Harper Macleod has hired Jan Foster as an associate for its real estate group in its Glasgow office. Foster joins from MacRoberts.

  • Pitmans has appointed Emma Deval as a solicitor in its matrimonial department. Deval joins from Dale & Newbery.

  • Hill Dickinson has hired John Holmes as a planning associate in its Liverpool commercial property practice from Pannone.

  • Bristol-based Roxburgh Milkins has appointed Richard Hopkins as a corporate partner. Hopkins was previously at Eversheds in Cardiff.

  • McDermott Will & Emery has hired Reed Stephens and Elizabeth Hack into its health practice. Prior to entering private practice in 2003, Stephens and Hack were both attorneys at the US Department of Justice. Meanwhile, the firm has hired Dewey Ballantine tax partner Thomas Giegerich as head of its New York federal tax practice.

  • Ledingham Chalmers has taken on agricultural and rural affairs lawyer Clive Phillips, who joins from Paull & Williamsons, where he was a partner.

  • Bryan Cave has appointed antitrust counsellor and litigator Paul M Kaplan as a partner. He joins from Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton.

  • Carter Ledyard & Milburn has hired criminal defence specialists Michael Shapiro and Alan Lewis as partners from Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney. Shapiro was a name partner with Slotnick Shapiro & Crocker before the firmwas acquired by Buchanan in 2005.

  • Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton has hired Leonard Jacoby as an IP partner from the New York office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
