  • Bermuda-based reinsurer Harbor Point has named Carol Rivers as general counsel. Rivers joins from Axis Capital Holdings.

  • Niche insurance firm Robin Simon has hired Megan Howe as a senior solicitor in its London office. Howe joins from Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.

  • HBJ Gateley Wareing has hired two partners in its Edinburgh property team. Andy Birrell joins from Shepherd & Wedderburn and Heather Pearson from Bell & Scott.

  • Rowlands Solicitors has promoted Amanda Rowlands to associate level. Rowlands practises in the personal injury department and joined the firm in August 2000 as a trainee solicitor.

  • Ogier has promoted three lawyers to its partnership. They are Jersey-based Phillip Le Cornu and Nick Ward, who become partners, effective from 1 February 2007. Simon Schilder, based in the British Virgin Islands and who became a partner of WSmiths on 1 December, will also become a partner at Ogier in February after the two firms’ merger is complete.

  • Moore & Blatch has hired Charles Cantoni as a partner in its residential land development group. Cantoni joins the Southampton firm from national housebuilder Persimmon, where he specialised in land acquisition and development.

  • Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton has hired Brian Pass as a partner. Pass joins the firm’s Century City office in the entertainment, media and communications and IP group. Pass joins from Brown Raysman Millstein Felder & Steiner in Los Angeles.

  • Doyle Clayton has hired Peter De Maria as an associate in its employment team. Clayton joins from Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw. Joanna Atkinson also joins the firm’s employment group after a year of travelling.

  • Ashfords has hired Charles Hattersley as head of its maritime department in its Plymouth office. Marine lawyer Ashley Axten also joins the firm’s Bristol office. Both Hattersley and Axten join from Foot Anstey.
  • Southampton-based Paris Smith & Randall has hired Lucy Li as a newly qualified solicitor in the commercial property, retail and leisure team. Li is a Bristol University graduate.

  • Canadian firm Gowling Lafleur Henderson has hired four associates. They are Andréa Brinston, Alakananda Chatterjee, Bernadette Corpuz and Bradley Dick. Brinston joins from Wildeboer Dellelce, Chatterjee from Smart & Biggar, Corpuz rejoins after an 18-month sabbatical, during which she set up the general counsel function of Enersource Corporation, while Dick joins from Thomas Rondeau.
