Penningtons has hired a corporate partner from Denton Wilde Sapte to run the commercial department at its Newbury office.
John Riddick, whose family is based in Newbury, joins Penningtons after more than three years as a partner, first at Denton Hall and then at the merged firm. Before that he was a partner at Fox & Gibbons and played a key role in the development of Dentons' Middle East practice. Denton Hall acquired the firm's 42-lawyer Middle East practice in 1998, and Riddick joined as managing partner of the Dubai office. He moved to the London office of Dentons in 2000. At Penningtons, Riddick replaces department head Mark Telfer. The department comprises a consultant, two other lawyers and a trainee. Newbury managing partner Julian Chadwick said that Riddick would be developing some of his London contacts at Penningtons. He brings experience in general banking, trade finance, M&A and commercial matters, such as distribution, franchise and competition, outsourcing, data protection law and contractual disputes pre-litigation.
