Leading Edinburgh-based commercial firm Shepherd & Wedderburn is to install a state-of-the-art practice management system which will result in 250 users having a desktop PC.
It is seen as a radical move for a Scottish firm.
The firm has opted for the Precedent system, supplied by Miles 33, and its chief executive Hugh Donald says: "We wanted to be absolutely certain that we were investing in cutting edge technology."
He adds: "Legal IT suppliers have been trying for some time to persuade legal firms that certain systems based on a relational database, with workstations on every desk is the way of the future.
"Few firms have had the courage to commit the resources necessary to implement a system of this type and to this extent."
