New York firm Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison is taking on one of Australia's leading telecoms lawyers for its Hong Kong office.
Michael Reede is leaving leading Australian communications firm Gilbert & Tobin and relocating to Hong Kong.
He will be Paul Weiss' fourth partner in Hong Kong, and the eighth in Asia. He will work with head of the Asian communications group Jeanette Chan, who is also based in Hong Kong.
Reede advises clients on all aspects of telecommunications work and has worked on major projects in Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa and Singapore.
He defended Vodafone in the first telecoms access arbitration to be brought under the Trade Practices Act in Australia.
Reede joined Gilbert & Tobin in 1993 and became a partner in 1996.
Head of Paul Weiss' global communications and technology group Phillip Spector says: "Michael's practice areas will complement those of Jeanette Chan, and his arrival will enhance our position as the leading telecommunications law firm in the region."
Chan's telecoms clients include Cable & Wireless, General Instrument Corp and GTE China. She was previously senior international legal adviser for Cable & Wireless in the Asian region.
She represents satellite and television broadcasters, and internet-related companies on their work in Asia.
