The last remnants of Brobeck Phleger & Harrison are finally disappearing after Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker hired 41 lawyers.
Ten partners will join Paul Hastings, including intellectual property partner Doug Olson who was a member of Brobeck’s nine-strong policy committee.
The haul spans three locations: San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco. As a result Paul Hastings is opening an office in San Diego which will add to its seven US operations, three of which are based in California.
However, while the Brobeck partners are being housed temporarily at the defunct firm’s San Diego office it appears to be doubtful that Paul Hastings will take over the lease. According to a spokesman at Paul Hastings the firm is scouting out a number of new locations.
If Paul Hastings chooses another site it will be a blow to the Brobeck partners since the firm is facing a lawsuit from its landlord Equity Office Properties to vacate its San Francisco headquarters.

Though there is hope that former potential merger partner Morgan Lewis & Bockius, which has recruited the largest number of former Brobeck partners, may take on the San Francisco space.
