Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker has continued expanding its private equity practice with the hire of corporate partner Garrett Hayes from Macfarlanes.
His appointment follows the hire of five partners in Paul Hastings’ Paris office from Hogan Lovells and Proskauer earlier this year and four partners in its Chicago office from Kirkland & Ellis, Greenburg Traurig and Katten Muchin Rosenman last year.
Managing partner of the US firm’s London office Ronan O’Sullivan said: “[Hayes’] M&A and private equity expertise and credentials will serve as a great addition to the London office as we build out our international private equity and corporate offering.”
Hayes had been a partner at Macfarlanes since 2005 and handles a range of corporate, M&A and private equity work and has acted for private equity sponsors and portfolio companies on leveraged buyouts, restructurings and auction sale processes.
O’Sullivan added: “The growth of the London corporate practice remains a central strategy for our firm. Garrett’s experience in the private equity market coupled with the strength of our international footprint provides a great opportunity for us as our practice continues to grow in London and Europe.”

For a firm the size of Macfarlanes to be losing partners so regularly is a sign of deep rooted problems.
It's thinking too much of human nature to speculate that these departures are the result of dissatisfaction with the number (and manner) of redundancies over the past few years, but it is likely that they had a corrosive effect on morale and were destabilizing.

Grateful for the views above. In other news, the sun will rise tomorrow.

To lose one partner is a misfortune. To lose three in three months seems like carelessness.
