Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker has bolstered its Tokyo real estate finance practice with the appointment of Naosuke Fujita, the managing director of Goldman Sachs’ legal department in Japan.
Paul Hastings hopes that Fujita’s move to its joint venture firm Taiyo Law Office as a partner will strengthen relations with the US investment bank.
“I am hoping that I will be retained by Goldman Sachs – [it] is an excellent financial institution,” said Fujita.
Fujita, who was at Goldman Sachs for just over four-and-a-half years, focuses on investments in distressed assets, distressed companies and corporate restructurings. At Goldman Sachs he acted on the acquisition of four hotels from Daiei in February.
Fujita believes that he can apply the experience he gained from his time at Goldman Sachs to private practice. He said: “I have a very good understanding of clients based on my experience at Goldman Sachs – I can really connect to clients.”
