A MAJOR Liberal Democrat policy paper on legal reform is to be unveiled at the House of Commons next week. The paper, to be called Access to Justice, will provide a benchmark for lawyers ass-essing the different approach of the three major parties to law reform. It has been produced by the Liberal Democrat Lawyers Association after wide consultation and tackles the legal aid reform Green Paper and Lord Woolf's review of civil law.The group's chair David Ive said the paper would be highly influential in forming party policy."It represents a major effort for the association. It is being seen by all the party spokesmen and will form to a large degree the basis of party policy."Ive will join Liberal Democrat legal affairs spokesman Lord Lester QC to unveil the document on Friday. Its publication follows the release of controversial reform plans in the summer by the Labour Party. The party's policy paper advocates the formal referral of the Law Society and the Bar to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.
