Partners opt for banking

Two London-based Coudert Brothers partners are leaving to take up top City in-house banking jobs.

Banking and corporate tax partner Jeremy McCallum is to join Credit Lyonnais as legal department head on 9 January.

He replaces Jennifer Goodwin, who left to go to UBS two months ago (The Lawyer 20 September).

International banking and finance partner Barry Metzger has been granted a leave of absence to become general counsel at the Asian Development Bank.

McCallum makes the move after four years at Couderts, three as a partner.

"I'm obviously delighted. I've decided to make a move back into banking to carry out a general legal counsel role, and this is an ideal opportunity," says McCallum.

He was with Linklaters & Paines for six years. After two years at Linklater's New York office he joined Morgan Stanley, then returned to London to set up and run a tax department.

At Credit Lyonnais he will be managing general legal affairs, advising on commercial banking, corporate finance, structured finance, funds management, and litigation.

McCallum hopes to expand the four-lawyer team.

Meanwhile Metzger will move to Manilla to head a 25-lawyer team in what is considered one of the top jobs in development banking.
