Freshfields has strengthened its New York office with the appointment of senior tax partner, Robert Scarborough. Scarborough joins from US firm Sidley & Austin, where he was a partner for five years. He specialises in advising clients on the tax aspects of structured transactions, derivatives, securitisations, and other complex financings. Freshfields now has more than 40 lawyers in its New York and Washington office, almost all of whom are US-qualified.
Construction litigation partner John Bolton, who has been with Davies Arnold Cooper since 1991, has left to head up Eversheds' construction litigation practice in Bristol. Bolton was one of five assessors on Lord Woolf's Access to Justice committee.
Irish firm McCann Fitzgerald has appointed two new partners, Judith Lawless and Jim Murphy, bringing the firm's total number of partners to 52. Lawless specialises in banking, financial services and derivatives, while Murphy advises on major property projects and commercial property sales and acquisitions.
Richard Payne has been appointed as a partner at the Chelmsford office of Wollastons, which he joined in December. Payne also has over seven years' experience in UK and international mergers and acquisitions. He was previously at Hammond Suddards and Simmons & Simmons.
