Law Society chief executive Janet Paraskeva is to succeed Baroness Usha Prashar as the First Civil Service Commissioner.
Paraskeva will take up the part-time role next year, as her work at the Law Society winds down in the wake of its regulatory and representative split in January 2006.
The Law Society said that she will not be doing any “significant work” at the Civil Service until May 2006, by which time the new regulatory and representative functions should be operative.
At the Civil Service Paraskeva will be responsible for overseeing recruitment to the service. In 2004-2005 the First Commissioner was paid a total of £147,000 in salary and costs.
In contrast Paraskeva’s salary as chief executive is nearly £300,000.
