Owen, Gerallt – Hot 100

Eversheds hired Gerallt Owen last summer as part of a concerted push to build up its London regulatory practice.

While the firm has a well-developed regulatory practice in the regions, it lacks weight in London; and Owen, a corporate crime partner from niche firm Orchard, will help address that. His experience in fraud and criminal cartel work will fill a significant hole in the national firm’s London offering.

Owen will also provide criminal expertise for Eversheds’ inquiries and investigations unit, as well as for other departments which deal with regulators, such as the Financial Services Authority, the Health and Safety Executive and the Inland Revenue.

Since the criminalisation of cartels, law firms have either brought partners with criminal experience in-house or consolidated alliances with independent corporate crime boutiques. But Owen, who previously worked on some high-profile legal aid fraud cases, is a brave and strong choice for Eversheds.
