Outer Temple Chambers has firmed up its US alliances by bringing trial lawyer Vance of NY firm Morvillo Abramovitz on board.
Outer Temple Chambers has firmed up its US alliances by bringing trial lawyer Cyrus Vance of New York firm Morvillo Abramovitz on board as an associate member.
Vance, who has practised before the US Supreme Court, adds strength to Outer Temple's US offering, which includes Richard Lissack QC and Robert-Jan Temmink, who is foreign legal consultant of the New York bar.
Philip Mott QC, Outer Temple's head of chambers, told The Lawyer that Vance will help enhance the set's strategy in the US, which is to build a profile with selected firms in the country.
"Our legal and business interests complement each other and provide numerous opportunities to generate joint initiatives," said Mott.
Outer Temple's US focus is part of a wider strategy to develop the set's commercial practice. Since kick-starting its commercial work, the set's turnover has increased by 181 per cent and now represents 10 per cent of chambers' total income, compared with 5.3 per cent three years ago.
The US alliance comes just weeks after the set announced it has set up shop in Abu Dhabi (The Lawyer, 3 December 2007). A spokesman said that over the next five years the firm will continue to grow its commercial practice, with particular emphasis on the Middle East and the US.
