Osborne Clarke has appointed its first practice-specific business manager as part of a push into higher-end work.
Richard Bydawell, a senior business manager in Linklaters’ finance division, has joined Osborne Clarke as business manager for the Bristol firm’s business transactions group.
The move is seen by the firm as a pilot project ahead of making similar appointments across other practice groups.
Managing partner Simon Beswick said the appointment would allow partners to spend more time on client relationships and ease some of their day-to-day management responsibilities.
In another high-level, non-legal appointment at the firm McKinsey director John Brady has joined as its first-ever external non-executive director. Brady will act as an adviser to the senior management team with a remit to look more closely at international strategy.
In March Burges Salmon HR director David Shufflebotham will join Osborne Clarke as its most senior HR team member.
Beswick commented: “These appointments are a clear signal that we’re going places. We’re trying to take the firm to the upper end of the market.”
