Orrick takes bulk of CC West Coast practice

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe today confirmed that a team of eight Clifford Chance partners are joining the firm.

The move of the eight, as exclusively revealed in the latest edition of The Lawyer, is effective from today (21 June).

The haul of largely ex-Brobeck Phleger & Harrison partners who moved to Clifford Chance two years ago, is made up of lawyers from both the magic circle’s San Francisco and Los Angeles (LA) offices.

Mainly securities litigation experts, the team includes Clifford Chance’s West Coast managing partner and member of the Americas management group Jim Burns and co-head of the securities litigation practice Mike Torpey, who was also a member of the Americas management group.

Orrick’s announcement, which will give the firm a team of 39 securities litigation lawyers throughout the US, arrives just after Clifford Chance confirmed that it was closing down its San Francisco and LA offices, leaving it with bases in Palo Alto and San Diego.
