Orrick seals merger with Rambaud Martel

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has finalised its merger agreement with French independent Rambaud Martel in a deal which will see 18 Rambaud partners join the US firm in January 2006.

The merger comes after raids on Rambaud Martel by Proskauer Rose and Reed Smith earlier this year. Proskauer picked up six partners while Reed Smith took four earlier this month (The Lawyer, 14 November) and used the hires to formally announce it was to launch in Paris.

Rambaud Martel brings Orrick expertise and a solid client base in M&A designed to complement the firm’s existing French finance practice. The move will more than double the size of Orrick’s Parisian presence, creating a 35-partner office with a turnover of around Eur40m.

The link-up completes a busy year for Orrick. It has raided the dissolving Coudert Brothers for lawyers in Paris and Moscow and opened in Taipei during the course of 2005.
