Orrick boosts Korea group with Debevoise hire

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has strengthened its Korea group through the appointment of Debevoise & Plimpton international counsel and Korean law specialist Mark Lee.

Lee, a US-qualified lawyer, has joined Orrick as partner. His brief is to provide on-the-ground US capital markets capability to assist with Orrick’s growing Asian M&A and private equity offerings.

He will be based in Hong-Kong alongside the head of the firm’s Korea group, Michelle Taylor. The firm’s Korean offering also includes Tokyo-based finance partner Eugene Chang.

Lee has also brought in associates Uno Cho and David Cho, also from Debevoise, to its Korea group.

Managing partner of Orrick’s Asian offices, Christopher Stephens, said there had been an increased level of foreign direct investment into Korea and that Korean companies were also increasingly active in their outbound investments.

He added that the addition of Lee and his team filled several strategic roles for the firm’s Korean offering which currently hosts clients such as the Korea Development Bank, Hyundai, Samsung and LG electronics.
