Orrick and Hölters await merger vote results

US firm Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe and German firm Hölters & Elsing have spent the weekend locked in final discussions over their long-mooted merger.

Orrick’s board voted on the merger in San Francisco last Friday (5 September), with partners at Düsseldorf-based Hölters voting on the following day.

At the time of going to press the results were unknown, but partners at both firms say they expect the merger to succeed.

Orrick has identified New York and Europe, with London at its centre, as the cornerstone of its strategy. Hölters has a strong corporate reputation in Germany and if successful the merger would see Orrick’s European ambitions revitalised.

The merger will also be beneficial for Hölters, which has sought to diversify from its corporate roots.

Orrick has recently signed up to new London premises that will see its space in the City more than double.

Orrick communication director Allan Whitescarver declined ;to ;comment. Hölters was unavailable for comment.
