Newly enlarged Clyde & Co, which merged with Barlow Lyde & Gilbert at the beginning of this month, has recruited Louisa Robbins as a partner in its professional and commercial disputes team in Manchester.
Move of the week
She joins from Robin Simon, where she was also a partner. Robbins has experience in defending claims against the surveying and valuing profession, working with both surveying firms and their professional indemnity (PI) insurers. She has a particular interest in claims involving fraud or dishonesty. Robbins will work alongside partner James Preece in Manchester and will help to expand the firm’s UK PI offering.
Burges Salmon has strengthened its pensions team with five new appointments at junior and senior level. Joining the team as senior associates are Bethan Edwards, who comes from Linklaters, and Catrin Young, who joins from TLT. Helen Trethewey joins as an associate from Bond Pearce. The team has also welcomed Chris Brown and Andy Prater, who trained at Burges Salmon and qualified into the firm’s pensions team in September 2011.
Simon Polito has been appointed as a deputy chairman of the Competition Commission. Polito is currently a consultant with Hogan Lovells.
Robin Simon has announced the hire of Neil Trayhurn as a partner. He joins from the London office of Bond Pearce, where he established the professional indemnity practice. He will be responsible for managing and developing the Robin Simon practice in the London insurance market.
Sacker & Partners has appointed Joanna Smith and Sarah Henderson as solicitors.
Smith joins from Hogan Lovells, where she was a senior associate in the pensions group. Henderson comes from SNR Denton, where she was a trainee solicitor for two years.
Reed Smith has announced the appointment of Jeb Clulow as a partner in its shipping group. Clulow joins the firm from Barlow Lyde & Gilbert (BLG), where he was a partner in the firm’s marine energy and trade group. He joins along with senior associate Lyall Hickson, also from BLG.
Penningtons has netted a new partner for its corporate team in the shape of David Kendall, who will be based at the firm’s Godalming office. Kendall joins from Stevens & Bolton in Guildford, where he was a senior associate.
Thomson Snell & Passmore has unveiled two appointments to its family team. Kirstie Law joins as a partner from Cripps Harries Hall, where she was also a partner. Helen Waite joins as an associate from ASB Law.
DAC Beachcroft has promoted Julitta Yates to the firm’s partnership. Yates focuses her practice on real estate and will help boost the firm’s capabilities in the South West region.
Terry Falcao has taken up the role of head of employment for Stephens Scown. Based in Exeter, he will look after clients across Devon and Cornwall. He joins from Stones, where he held the same position.
The Bristol office of Withers & Rogers has appointed two new associates to its specialist practice groups. Helen Henderson, previously a patent lawyer at Schlich & Co in Sussex, has joined Withers’ life sciences and chemistry practice group. Chris Hall joins the firm’s electronics, computing and physics group following two years as a patent lawyer for Fry Heath Spence in Oxford.
Lincoln-based Langleys has taken on associate Paul Currie and solicitor James Worthington. Currie is a dispute resolution specialist and joins from Birmingham’s Martineau. Worthington focuses on agricultural property law and joins from Andrew Jackson in Hull.
Myers Lister Price Solicitors has hired lawyer Paul Coombs to its wills, trust and probate team. He joins from Aaron & Partners, where he held the same position.
Michael Briggs has joined Leicestershire-based Cummins. He moves from Howes Percival, where he was an associate in the employment team in Leicester.
Julie Endersby and Victoria Wall have been promoted to solicitors at Norwich-based Howes Percival. Endersby, who has been with the firm since 2005, works in the commercial litigation team. Wall, who joined the firm in 2009, focuses her practice on commercial property.
East Midlands-based Shacklocks has appointed solicitor Susan Thomas to lead its property team. She joins from MacLaren Britton in Nottingham, where she dealt with commercial property and development, and supervised the firm’s residential conveyancing team.
Hill Dickinson has taken on Sean Williams as a partner in its private client team. He joins from Addleshaw Goddard, where he worked for 11 years in total, three as legal director. Williams will be based in Hill Dickinson’s Manchester office.
DAC Beachcroft has made an internal partner promotion and a lateral hire in Leeds. Partner Michael Peeters will head up a northern technology law team to offer clients outsourcing, IT and telecoms project support. Peeters was previously head of the regional ICT projects team at Pinsent Masons in Leeds. The partner promotion is Claire Reynolds in employment.
Susan Maxey has joined Dickinson Dees private client practice as a director. She comes from Addleshaw Goddard in Leeds, where she was a legal director.
Richard Freeman-Wallace and Alison Hall have joined Newcastle-based Hay & Kilner as partners. Freeman-Wallace joins the firm’s commercial property division.
Bryan Cave is launching its Frankfurt office with the hire of two Haarmann partners. Tobias Fenck and Veit Denzer will take the helm at the office. Both focus on serving private equity clients, mezzanine funds and banks.
Romania’s Mares & Asociatii has hired a partner from Zamfirescu Racoti Predoiu in a move that sees the firm relaunch itself as Mares Danilescu & Asociatii. Lucian Danilescu joins as a partner with experience in M&A, real estate, energy and capital markets.
Clyde & Co has hired banking and finance partner Adrian Low to its Middle East practice in Dubai. Low joins from DLA Piper in Kuwait.
Gide Loyrette Nouel lawyer Bruno Grangier has joined French independent Aklea as a partner in its Shanghai office. Grangier previously spent 10 years at Gide’s Shanghai office.
Anthony Jacobsen has moved to Sidley Austin’s Shanghai office as a capital markets and corporate partner. He joins from Baker & McKenzie, where he was a partner in the firm’s commercial and securities group.
DLA Piper has hired Scott Thiel as a partner
in its Asian IP and technology practice in Hong Kong. He transfers from the firm’s UK IP and technology group.
Winston & Strawn has expanded its global IP litigation group with the addition of Alfred Fabricant and Lawrence Drucker as partners in its New York office. Fabricant will also head the firm’s IP practice group in New York. They join from Dickstein Shapiro, where they were partners.
Catherine Ozdogan has joined Latham & Watkins’ Houston office as a partner in the finance department. She leaves Bracewell & Giuliani in Houston, where she was also a partner.
Harneys has added private equity specialist Natalie Bell to its investment funds team in the British Virgin Islands. Prior to joining Harneys, Bell was an associate in the private equity group at Travers Smith in London.
