Eversheds has appointed Richard Lewis as a partner in its London M&A practice.
Move of the week
Lewis joins from Hogan Lovells, where he has been a partner since 2001. He has worked on a wide spectrum of transactions, covering life sciences, financial institutions and industrial sectors. His clients include international pharmaceutical companies and insurers, and automotive and consumer goods manufacturers. “I was attracted to Eversheds because of the firm’s impressive progress over recent years and its enviable multinational client base,” said Lewis. His corporate experience includes takeovers, demergers and joint ventures.
Holman Fenwick Willan has hired Susan Farmer as a partner in the London office’s corporate, projects and finance practice. She joins from US energy specialist Fulbright & Jaworski, where she was also a partner in the London office.
Hodge Jones & Allen has welcomed Julie Say as a partner and head of clinical negligence. She comes from Parlett Kent, where she was also a partner.
Cushman & Wakefield has appointed real estate finance specialist Michael Lindsay as a partner and head of its Europe, Middle East and Africa corporate finance team in London. Prior to joining Cushman, Lindsay was a partner and UK head of corporate finance at KPMG.
Brachers has netted non-contentious construction partner Romano Obertelli. He was previously at Addleshaw Goddard for 12 years and most recently with Maxwell Winward. Obertelli will split his time between Brachers’ Maidstone and London offices depending on client needs.
Cheltenham-based BPE has welcomed Elizabeth Saunders as a partner and head of
its new family law department. She joins from Cirencester firm Wilmot & Co, where she was also a partner.
Browne Jacobson has recruited associate Richard Freeth to its Birmingham office. He has more than 10 years’ experience advising schools, academies and local authorities on a range of legal issues including admissions, exclusions and special educational needs. Freeth was previously joint head of education at Anthony Collins.
Walker Morris has appointed Stephen Cirell on a consultancy basis for its renewables, energy and resources team. Cirell will help Walker Morris target the local authority energy and renewables market. He was previously lead director of the Green Cornwall programme at Cornwall Council and most recently a consultant at Eversheds.
Netherlands firm AKD has appointed Jan Kromhout as a partner in its shipping and offshore team. Kromhout joins from transport management company Dockwise, where he was head of the legal department.
Salans has appointed Jesús Varela as a partner in its global real estate group. Varela will be based in the Madrid office and will join the banking and finance and reorganisation, restructuring and insolvency practice groups. He joins Salans from Linklaters, where he was also a partner.
Portugal-based PBBR has hired partner Alexandre Jardim, who brings with him associate Patrícia Costa Gomes. Jardim joins from Serra Lopes Cortes Martins & Associados, where he was a partner and head of the banking, finance and private equity practices.
Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek has recruited Clifford Chance partners Klaus Weinand-Härer and Marc Scheunemann. Weinand-Härer joins the Frankfurt office, while Scheunemann joins the Düsseldorf arm.
LG has appointed Courtney Rothery as an associate in its Dubai construction and projects team. She joins from Trench & Associates in Dubai, where she headed the litigation department.
Simmons & Simmons has announced the arrival of Ahmed Butt as of counsel in its Middle East financial markets practice. Butt will focus on the Saudi Arabian market. He joins from Hogan Lovells’ Dubai office, where he was a founding member of the Islamic finance team.
Sparke Helmore has promoted Carlie Holt and Luke Holland as partners in its workplace group. Holt, who has been with Sparke for almost 10 years and is based in Sydney, advises government bodies and companies on various coronial and work health and safety matters. Holland, who joined Sparke five years ago, specialises in occupational health and safety and employment law.
Weil Gotshal & Manges has hired patent litigation lawyer Stephen Shahida as a partner in Washington DC. Shahida comes from McDermott Will & Emery, where he was head of IP litigation in the Washington DC office.
The Seattle office of K&L Gates has welcomed Charles Carter as a corporate partner. Carter joins from the Summit Law Group. He represents high-growth companies in an array of areas, including formations, financings and M&A.
Morgan Lewis has hired Jim Garrity as a partner in its New York business and finance practice. Garrity, who was most recently a partner at Shearman & Sterling, will lead the firm’s restructuring team. He previously served for nine years as a bankruptcy judge in the Southern District of New York.
WilmerHale has announced the arrival of antitrust and competition partner Molly Boast to the firm’s New York office. Boast served as deputy assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice’s antitrust division from 2009 to early 2011 and was previously a partner at Debevoise & Plimpton.
Nagendra Setty has joined Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton as co-chair of the firm’s 70-lawyer IP practice group. He will be based in the firm’s Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. He joins from Fish & Richardson, where he founded and was managing principal of the Atlanta office.
