Media boutique Wiggin has launched a trademark filing practice, hiring Withers & Rogers partner Laurel McBray as a consultant to join Wiggin lawyer Gurminder Panesar at the helm of the team.

The practice will cover UK, EU and international trademark filings. McBray will continue to run IP consultancy Trademark Café while working for Wiggin. She was a partner at Withers for seven years. Wiggin chief executive John Banister said: “Establishing a trademark filing practice is an exciting but entirely sensible venture for the firm.”
Clyde & Co has hired trade finance partner Philip Prowse from Salans, where he was joint head of the firm’s global banking and finance practice group.
Curtis Mallet-Prevost Colt & Mosle has taken on Anthony Smith as a partner in its infrastructure development practice in London. He joins the firm from Farne Project Consultancy, which he created in 2007.
Sacker & Partners has hired Jones Day employee benefits and executive compensation associate Anna Copestake. She is joined by Slaughter and May pensions and employment associate Katy Harries, alongside Lauren Vose from Allen & Overy’s employment and benefits team. They all join as solicitors.
US firm Proskauer Rose has appointed Peter McGowan as a partner for its London corporate team. He joins from Berwin Leighton Paisner, where he was a partner.
Weybridge firm Guillaumes has appointed Carolynn Tan as the head of its family law department. She has been a partner at the firm since July 2010.
Essex firm Birkett Long has made up David Cant, director of business development and marketing, and Louise Pisano, director of finance, to the partnership. They become the firm’s first non-lawyer partners. In addition, associate solicitors Liz Jones, Amanda Smallcombe and Kevin Sullivan also become partners. The firm
has also appointed IT and business operations manager Craig Bloomfield, tax, probates and rural business lawyer Vicky Raynes and financial services head Nicola Ward to the partnership.
Cheltenham firm BPE has hired solicitor Anna Wood for its construction and engineering practice, increasing the team’s lawyer headcount to four. She joins from local firm Rickerbys, where she was an assistant.
Taunton firm Ashfords has added commercial property associate Mark Moore
to the partnership.
Stephens Scown in St Austell has promoted commercial property lawyer Jennifer Burden, family lawyer Fiona Cavell and residential property lawyer Jo Morgan to associate. Truro team members James Burrows (dispute resolution), Kris Seed (family) and Andrew Knox (insolvency) also become associates.
Plymouth firm Wolferstans has recruited Mala Mandalia for its divorce finance team. Mandalia was previously head of the family department at Cornwall firm Brains Solicitors.
Exeter firm Michelmores Solicitors has promoted Louise Edwards to marketing director, Simon Clarke to IT and operations director and Colette Stevens to HR director. Partner Laurence Vick has been appointed to the advisory group for the National Institute for Health Research study into medical tourism. Vick heads the firm’s clinical negligence team.
Newcastle firm Sintons has recruited Claire Morgan from Eversheds as a consultant, Katrina Hopkin and Iona Sims from Watson Burton, Rebecca Fielding from Hogan Lovells and David Lant from Muckle. Samantha Younghusband joins the debt recovery team as an administrator. All six join the commercial group as fee-earners.
Last Cawthra Feather lawyer Steve Willey has joined Ford & Warren‘s employment team as an assistant solicitor. He has a background in employment advice.
Maclay Murray & Spens has appointed Debbie Le Sueur as director of contracts and outsourcing in the corporate department at its Glasgow office. Corporate lawyer Susan Gibb in Edinburgh has been promoted to associate.
Mark Brady in Aberdeen and Callum McPherson in Edinburgh both become associates in the banking team. In the real estate team, Allan Cairns and Barry Edgar in Glasgow and Elizabeth Ward in Edinburgh are also promoted to associate level.
Marccus Partners has scooped IP/IT lawyer Emmanuel Gougé from EGAvocats,
which he founded. He joins the Paris team as a partner.
Salans has made up three associates to the partnership across Eastern Europe. Bucharest disputes lawyer Tiberiu Csaki, corporate and project finance expert Pawel Grabowski in Warsaw and banking specialist Kamal Mamedzade all make the cut. Mamedzade divides his time between Baku and Almaty.
TMT partner Matthew Glynn has been appointed DLA Piper’s country managing partner for Singapore, taking over from Martin David, who held the position since 2008. David continues as head of the Asia finance and projects group and Asian head of the energy, water and mining sectors.
Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker has hired Rich Farley as a partner for its leveraged finance practice in New York. He joins from Cahill Gordon & Reindel, where he was also a partner.
Winston & Strawn has snatched litigator John Roesser as a partner from Seyfarth Shaw, where he was also a partner.
Energy partners Patrick Groomes and Anthony Danti join Fulbright & Jaworski’s Washington DC office from Kirkland & Ellis, where they were partners.
Dewey & LeBoeuf has hired Ira White as private equity head from Morgan Lewis & Bockius. Ilan Nissan joins the same team from O’Melveny & Myers, where he headed the M&A and private equity team. Chris Nugent also joins the private equity practice from O’Melveny & Myers. Nissan and White become US co-chairs
of the private equity transactions group.
In the latest round of presiding judges appointments, Mr Justice Wyn Williams has
been appointed to the Wales Circuit, where he will succeed Mr Justice Lloyd Jones. Mr Justice Sweeney has been appointed to the South Eastern Circuit, succeeding Mr Justice Cooke.
Mr Justice Holroyde has been appointed to the Northern Circuit where he will succeed Mr Justice Irwin. Mrs Justice Thirlwall has replaced Mrs Justice Macur in the Midlands Circuit.
