Büchner, who had been a partner at legacy firm Lovells since 1988, specialises in TMT transactions, outsourcing and IT projects, and has advised on Bundesliga audio-visual broadcasting rights for Deutsche Telekom. Büchner told German legal magazine Juve that his decision to move was partly based on ­conflicts of interest arising from the May 2010 merger of Lovells and Hogan & Hartson, but said it was “naturally very ­difficult to leave” after 30 years at the firm. Hogan Lovells has had to decline mandates from Deutsche Telekom and Sky due to ­conflicts.

Former K&L Gates corporate tax head Oliver Gutman has joined the London and Birmingham offices of Martineau as a partner.

City Law Financial has promoted Clark Hood to the partnership, specialising in litigation and arbitration. He becomes the third partner in the dispute resolution and corporate boutique.

Reynolds Porter Chamberlain has appointed Darran Jenkins to expand its construction, ­engineering and projects group. He joins as an associate from Howard Kennedy, where he was also an associate.

Irwin Mitchell has bolstered its family law team with the hire of partner John Nicholson from Speechly Bircham, where he was also a partner. Eversheds head of real estate tax Alex Barnes has also joined the firm, becoming a ­property tax advisory partner in the London and Birmingham offices.

Former Travers Smith partner Alasdair ­Douglas has been appointed the next chairman of the City of London Law Society, succeeding David McIntosh, who steps down after seven years in the role.

Private client lawyer Penny Wright has moved to the Reading office of Manches, becoming a senior associate. She joins from Thomas Eggar in Newbury, where she was an associate. She rejoins Anna Burnside and Fiona Wheeler, who also moved from Thomas Eggar last year.

IP boutique Urquhart-Dykes & Lord has made up patent specialist Simon Raynor to ­partner in its Milton Keynes office.

Criminal firm Cartwright King has promoted barrister Harry Bowyer to partner

Cobbetts has moved to shore up its regulatory team by taking on Paul Matthews

from DWF, where he was an associate, as a Leeds-based director within the litigation

Sheffield firm Graysons WE has rehired ­Sandra Russell from Norrie Waite & Slater as a partner in its family team. Russell was based at Graysons between 2005 and 2008.

Berrymans Lace Mawer has hired Hill ­Dickinson partner Claire Batchelor for its ­healthcare team. She is based in Manchester.

Linklaters has launched a competition ­practice in Amsterdam with the hire of Paul ­Kreijger as counsel and practice head from ­Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was also a counsel. His focuses include competition and energy.

Carsten Bödecker and Carsten Ernst have left German domestic firm Luther to launch ­investment and tax boutique Bödecker Ernst & Partner.
