The head of Withy King’s construction and engineering division Graham Street has been appointed as the firm’s managing partner.
Move of the week
Street, who joined Withy King in 1990, became a partner and head of the firm’s construction and engineering team in 1998. He takes over the reins from Martin Powell, who has been managing partner since 1999. Powell will take up a position in Withy King’s commercial practice, leading its specialist healthcare team.
Hunton & Williams has appointed associate Cate Haywood to its global outsourcing and technology group in London. Haywood joins from Harbottle & Lewis and her practice focuses on all aspects of data protection and privacy law.
DWF has strengthened its London office with five new lawyers. Peter Blake, Nick Connolly, James Manning, Dan Verow and Sophie Mourmouris have all joined the insurance team. Blake joins from Kennedys as a senior solicitor; Connolly has also been appointed as a senior solicitor and joins from Barlow Lyde & Gilbert (BLG); Verow, a senior solicitor with 10 years’ experience, joins from Berrymans Lace Mawer; Manning joins as a legal executive, having previously worked for BLG; while Mourmouris joins the insurance litigation team as a solicitor, having qualified from Baker & McKenzie, where she trained as a solicitor.
Sacker & Partners has appointed Claire van Rees as a solicitor in its pensions team.
She is six years’ qualified and joins the firm from Hogan Lovells. Harbottle & Lewis has expanded its tax and private client team with the recruitment of international tax and estate planning lawyer Dhana Sabanathan from Burges Salmon. She advises clients on personal and corporate tax, with a particular focus on international tax and estate planning for UK and non-UK clients.
TWM Solicitors has bolstered its private client team with two recruits. Duncan
Mitchell-Innes arrives as a senior associate in the Wimbledon office from Parfitt Cresswell Solicitors, while Laura Walkley joins as a solicitor in the Guildford office from Thomas Eggar.
Brachers has announced the appointment of solicitor Lee May, who joins from Vertex Law.
Andrew Jackson has added to its employment law team with the recruitment of new partner Mary Walker. She joins from Hull law firm Rollits, where she was also a partner.
JMW Solicitors has strengthened its media law department with the appointment of new solicitor Nick McAleenan. He joins JMW’s media law team after spending three and half years at Pannone, where he was a solicitor in the commercial litigation team. He had previously trained at Brabners Chaffe Street.
Irwin Mitchell has added to its regulatory and criminal investigations group with the appointment of solicitor David Goldstein. He has been qualified for nine years and specialises in criminal defence work.
Morgan LaRoche has recently promoted
Nick Davies in the employment team and David Palmer in the commercial property team as senior solicitors. Davies joined the employment team at Morgan LaRoche in January 2007 and advises on a wide range of contentious and
non-contentious employment matters.
Having undertaken his training contract at Morgan La Roche, Palmer qualified as a solicitor in 2007.
Katten Muchin Rosenman has announced that Alvin Katz has joined the firm as a Chicago-based partner in its real estate practice. Katz, who has more than 30 years of real estate legal experience, arrives at Katten following 20 years as a partner in the Chicago office of Mayer Brown.
Duane Morris has announced that Adam Taliaferro has joined the firm’s employment, labour, benefits and immigration practice as an associate in its Cherry Hill, New Jersey office. He joins from Segal Berk Gaines & Liss, where he was an associate.
Freeborn & Peters has announced that three former Hogan Lovells attorneys have joined the firm’s litigation practice. Leading the group is partner Joseph McCullough and joining him in this move from Hogan Lovells are partner Robin Dusek and associate Kelly Slade.
The financial services regulatory group at Reed Smith has welcomed the addition of John Mussman as counsel in its Chicago office. Prior to joining Reed Smith Mussman was a partner in the Chicago office of Holland & Knight.
Winston & Strawn has brought in Caryn Jacobs, who has joined the litigation department in Chicago as a partner. Jacobs joins Winston from Mayer Brown, where she was a partner and co-chair of that firm’s securities litigation and corporate governance group.
Boekel De Nerée has hired Arjen Mulderije as a new M&A partner. Mulderije, whose main focus is on energy, has been a lawyer since 1994 and was previously a partner at Holland Van Gijzen, where he was head of the M&A practice group in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Ewa Rutkowska has joined Baker & McKenzie as a partner in its Warsaw office. Together with another firm partner, Paulina Kieszkowska-Knapik, they will lead the eight-person pharmaceutical, healthcare and product liability practice in Poland. Rutkowska previously led the pharmaceutical practice at Hogan Lovells.
John Virgo, a financial services specialist, is to take up a tenancy at Outer Temple Chambers.
He has experience in claims arising from financial misselling and negligent investment advice, including misselling of personal pension plans, with-profits annuities, endowment policies, lifetime mortgages, permanent health insurance policies and a wide range of investment products. He maintains his position at Guildhall Chambers.
