The Manchester office of Trowers & Hamlins has appointed Lynn James as a partner in its property dispute resolution practice.
Move of the week
James has joined from Cobbetts, where she spent 10 years in the firm’s property litigation team.
There she dealt with disputes relating to both housing management and leasehold management for clients, including managing agents, developers and housing associations.
The City Law School has appointed former Ministry of Defence trainer and civil litigation author Dominic Regan as an honorary visiting professor. In his new role, Regan will share his experience of alternative dispute resolution with students.
Aerospace specialist Gates and Partners has promoted Joanna Kolatsiss to partner. The firm said that Kolats, who is the former general counsel of the Libra Holidays Group, will bring a wide range of aviation, commercial and regulatory experience to the partnership.
Pauline Sibbit, a partner at Sacker & Partners, has been elected chairman of the Association of Pension Lawyers for a two-year period. Sibbit became a partner at Sackers in 1990.
Southampton- and Salisbury-based law firm Trethowans has bolstered its family team with the hire of Yvette Rooke as a partner. Rooke is an experienced family solicitor who specialises in divorce and cohabitation for high net-worth individuals, particularly clients who have complex business or pension arrangements. She joined the firm from Foot Anstey, where she was a partner.
Peter Wilson, head of the gambling law team at Blake Lapthorn, has left the firm after 20 years to join rival Memery Crystal. Wilson is a regulatory lawyer specialising in gambling and business investigations, particularly for online gambling clients. He joins Memery Crystal as a partner.
Brachers has added two new members to its team. Alyson Howard has joined as business development consultant and Stephen Smith has joined as a partner in the family team. Smith was previously an equity partner at Sussex-based Rix & Kay. Howard has joined from Meta Corporate Finance, where she was an equity director, advising organisations in London and the South East on business sales and acquisitions, finance raisings, succession planning and profit improvement.
Furley Page has hired Maxine Gregory as a legal executive in the firm’s debt recovery and insolvency team, and recently qualified solicitor Anthony Chester in its corporate team. Gregory was previously at Gravesham Borough Council.
Tollers has appointed two new partners in its corporate finance and recovery team. Corporate finance specialist Matthew Crosse was previously a partner at EMW Picton Howell and corporate and banking specialist Mark Archer was previously a partner at Kimbells.
Regional firm Higgs & Sons has appointed four trainees and four newly qualified solicitors. Siobhan Mulrey, Jonathan Start, Kate Massey and Erica Wassell will all train with the firm for the next two years. Amy Shakespeare qualifies into the firm’s corporate and commercial department, Nick Vernon joins employment, Jamie De Souza joins dispute resolution and Rhian Jervis joins the family department.
Scottish regional firm Ledingham Chalmers has promoted agricultural specialist Catherine Bury to associate level. Bury joined the firm as a trainee and during her time at Ledingham has acted for a wide range of commercial agricultural and estate clients, with a particular interest in tenancy matters.
Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira’s board of directors has named Francisco Pérez-Crespo and Miguel Trías as the new directors of its Madrid and Barcelona offices, respectively. Pérez-Crespo is a corporate partner and was a secretary of the board of directors of Aceralia Corporación Siderúrgica. Trías has an MBA from Esade Business School, where he is a professor of corporate law and was dean of law.
Lovells has boosted its banking and finance practice with the hire of Magdalena Bertram in Madrid. She joins the firm as counsel from Clifford Chance, where she was an associate.
Michael Emmick has joined the Los Angeles office of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton as special counsel. Emmick was previously an assistant US attorney for 25 years in Los Angeles. The firm has also appointed Robert Friedman as a partner in New York. He joins from Kelley Drye & Warren, where he was a partner.
Cooley Godward Kronish has announced that Babak Yaghmaie has joined its New York office as a partner after heading the national venture capital practice at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman.
Jones Day has hired Rick Bergstrom as a labour and employment partner in its San Diego office. Bergstrom joins from the San Diego office of Morrison & Foerster, where he was the co-chair of the employment and labour practice.
Direct Law & Personnel (DLP) has hired Sheena Subherwal as a legal manager and advocate in its legal department. Subherwal, who will handle DLP’s tribunal cases, joins straight from Law School in Manchester.
