In the same week that it moved to new offices in Reading, Olswang celebrated by closing a £15m deal for new client Handelsbanken
The Swedish bank, like Olswang, is new to the area. It chose Olswang to advise when it provided debt financing to a consortium buying QS Group.
The deal is also Olswang's first major transaction to involve both its London and Reading offices.
The Olswang team was led by head of banking Moni Mannings, working with Charles Kerrigan in London, and Andrew Peddie, John Castell and Charlotte Reid in the Reading office.
Olswang's Reading office rose from the ashes of Andersen Legal's UK firm Garretts. Since the firm re-emerged as Olswang, local managing partner Marshall Leopold has embarked on a business development drive, specifically targeting private equity work. "As Garretts, we simply weren't perceived as a private equity firm," said Leopold.
The firm moved into new offices in Reading last week. The Reading branch currently has 30 lawyers and the new office has space for 10 more. Leopold sees Reading as very buoyant and although he is wary of expanding too quickly in the current economic climate, he hopes to fill the space soon.
