Olswang is expanding its corporate practice by luring a leading partner from US firm Dewey Ballantine.
The arrival of Moni Mannings brings the team up to 18 partners and 35 lawyers. It follows the poaching of Fabrizio Carpanini and Chris Mackie from Berwin Leighton in November last year.
Now Olswang chief executive Jonathan Goldstein says he wants the finance and equity practice to be one of the firm's core departments.
The team concentrates on mergers and acquisitions, domestic and international flotations, management and institutional buyouts as well as private equity.
Goldstein says: "The combination of Moni, Fabrizio, Chris and the rest of the team will now give us a strong finance and equity practice.
"Moni has a highly-respected and well-recognised capability, and her experience in a broad range of financing activities fits ideally with our burgeoning practice."
Mannings was a partner at Simmons & Simmons before she joined Dewey Ballantine as a partner in 1997.
Both Carpanini and Mackie were key partners in Berwin Leighton's high-profile private equity team. Olswang chief executive Jonathan Goldstein saluted them both at the time for bringing "mainstream credibility" (The Lawyer, November 22).
