Olswang doubles Berlin office with Links IP team” />
Olswang’s Berlin office has doubled in size after taking on Linklaters‘ highly rated IP team of two partners and six fee-earners.
The move will kick-start the ;media ;capacity ;of Olswang’s Berlin outfit and boost the firm’s plans for a full-service offering there, as ;first ;revealed ;on www.thelawyer.com (28 March).
The Berlin office was launched just over a year ago, focusing on real estate, privatisations and projects.
Olswang ;managing partner David Stewart told The Lawyer: “This is certainly not the end of our plans for Berlin. We’re recruiting at a senior and junior level in a number of areas and we’re looking at corporate, but our vision for Berlin is to be full service.” The Linklaters team includes highly respected longstanding ;media partners Stefan Lütje and Georg von Wallis from Munich and former Berlin managing associate Viola Bensinger, who will join Olswang as a partner.
Linklaters ;German managing partner Michael Lappe said they are all close friends and that he rates them enormously.
However, Lappe added that they had all agreed jointly that Lütje’s and von Wallis’s media business was not part of Linklaters’ focus anymore. Linklaters decided to concentrate on corporate and transactional work in Germany in October 2007, shedding many partners in the process.
Lappe said he hoped to give the team instructions at Olswang and he does not see Olswang’s aim of becoming a corporate firm as providing head-on competition to Linklaters in Germany in the near future.
