Old Square loses tenants to judiciary

Several Old Square tenants have been appointed to judicial positions, including Matthias Kelly QC, the vice chairman of the Bar Council, who is now a Bencher of Gray's Inn. Kelly, who has been appointed a recorder, is due to be next year's Bar chairman. Old Square is losing William Birtles, who was sworn in as a circuit judge at Snaresbrook Crown Court last week. John Hand QC, a tenant at Old Square and circuit judge, has been appointed a recorder at the Employment Appeals Tribunal.
