Osborne Clarke has reshaped its German management team to bring it more in line with the firmwide governance structure, naming Cologne-based corporate partner Carsten Schneider as managing partner.
The new-look executive team will see current managing partner Stefan Rizor take up the role of senior partner. Rizor has held the managing partner role for over 10 years (4 December 2002).
Schneider will run the firm’s German operations alongside board members Joachim Breithaupt and Uwe Brossette. Breithaupt will be responsible for finance while Brossette will oversee sales and marketing initiatives.
Meanwhile Osborne Clarke has also established a partnership council to oversee the work of the board, which includes Schneider, Rizor, and office heads for Cologne, Hamburg and Munich. Elections for the Cologne office head are yet to take place, while local commercial head Christoph Torwegge has been elected as Hamburg office head and TMT partner Tim Reinhard is the new Munich head.
Torwegge joined Osborne Clarke only last year, part of a number of hires as the firm launched in Hamburg (23 October 2012).
Osborne Clarke managing partner Simon Beswick said the restructure was a natural progression in the development of the firm’s presence in Germany, a little more than a decade after launching there.
“It’s now getting to the size that it need sto gear up both from a governance and leadership point of view to look forward to the next five years of its journey,” Beswick said.
He said the firm would continue to focus on key sectors such as technology and life sciences in Germany.
The news comes as Osborne Clarke hired renewable energy specialist Alexander Dlouhy from White & Case. Dlouhy, who was previously a partner in the US firm’s Düsseldorf office, is joining Osborne Clarke in Cologne as a partner. Dlouhy joins an existing renewable energy team including Isabella Niklas in Hamburg.
