Baring Asset Management has poached Schroders’ head of legal for corporate services Sandie Okoro for the newly created role of global head of legal.
Okoro has quit the fund manager while it is in the throes of a full-scale review of its external legal advisers.
Okoro, who has worked at Schroders for 16 years, is joining Baring in May and will lead and manage the company’s small team of lawyers based in London, Boston and Hong Kong. She will report to Baring group head of legal, compliance and operational risk Mala Dhillon.
Okoro and Shroders general counsel Howard Trust were the driving force behind the creation of the fund manager’s first-ever global legal panel in 2004.
The launch of the panel followed an extensive review of Schroders’ external lawyers, which resulted in the fund manager sidelining more than 100 advisers to create a roster of 11 firms.
