O’Melveny enters Indonesia via association with Tumbuan & Partners

O’Melveny & Myers has entered into a formal association with Indonesian law firm Tumbuan & Partners and will relocate Singapore-based partner Joel Hogarth to Jakarta to coordinate the association.

O’Melveny has offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo. The association in Indonesia will further extend its Asian coverage.

Jakarta-based Tumbuan & Partners was established by senior partner Fred Tumbuan about 30 years ago and was recently joined by his daughter Jennifer Tumbuan as a partner and a number of additional associates. The firm focuses on providing Indonesian law advice in relation to corporate, finance and capital markets.

In addition to Hogarth, O’Melveny Indonesian senior legal counsel Ratih Nawangsari, who is based in Singapore, will play a key role in the association. The two firms have already worked on some high-profile transactions in Indonesia and the relationship will be fortified by the association.

Indonesia is poised for growth both locally and internationally. It is the largest economy in South East Asia with a population of close to 250 million people and a growth prediction of 6.5 per cent this year.

A number of international firms have already established formal alliances or associations with local firms. Norton Rose has an alliance with Susandarini & Partners, Allen & Overy has an association with Ginting & Reksodiputro and Blake Dawson has an alliance with Oentoeng Suria & Partners. Hadiputranto Hadinoto & Partners is a member of Baker & McKenzie International.
