As news comes in that the Queen is expected to leave hospital this afternoon, another group in need of nursing right now is the Norton Rose partners being asked to improve, leave or move down the lockstep.
As we report today, the firm sent out letters to selected inviduals in January warning them to pick up their performance, with the move described as a more intensive process than the firm’s usual round of improvement letters.
Norton Rose has insisted all along that there will be no pre-merger cull ahead of its planned union with Fulbright & Jaworski in June, and says the performance review system has not significantly changed.
Exiting Norton Rose’s office next to City Hall isn’t quite the same as leaving King Edward VII’s Hospital, where the Queen has been spending her first hospital stay in 10 years. But it looks as though there may be the occasional bloody nose if and when partners leave Norton Rose ahead of the US tie-up.
