Norton Rose has bolstered its employment pension and incentives department with the hire of Barnett Alexander Chart's head of employment.
Partner Peter Talibart, who is qualified in both Canadian and UK law, will join Norton Rose in November and will help to increase the practice's international profile.
The firm's employment practice has grown under the leadership of Tim Russell and has recently announced a £1.5m increase in annual turnover. But a partner was needed to sustain expansion in PFI and multi-jurisdictional work.
Talibart's North American links and experience on six major PFI employment projects worth £2.5bn will prove invaluable, according to employment head Tim Russell.
He says: "Norton Rose is a leading City employment practice and this can be seen by the growth of the department. Peter will complement the practice."
Canadian Talibart will benefit from the varied employment practice at Norton Rose with clients including newly merged oil giant Exxon Mobil. Others include BMW, Fuji Capital Markets, Gillette, St Bart's Hospital Trust, examination board City & Guilds, Burberry and holiday group Thomsons.
Talibart has previously worked on advising a variety of US clients. He says: "I am looking forward to joining the Norton Rose employment practice because of the high-quality cutting edge work. I expect this to continue in the future as the practice is going from strength to strength."
The new appointment will increase the number of solicitors in the department to 15.
