Women make up nearly half of 36 new partners; first promotions in Africa, Canada, Latin America
Norton Rose has announced the promotion of 36 lawyers to its partnership ranks, promoting eight in London and 17 in Canada, Africa and Latin America - the firm’s first ever promotional round in these markets.
A third of the round up came from the UK firm’s Canadian arm, a new market for Norton Rose after it made two Canadian mergers in 2011. The firm combined with Calgary-based Macleod Dixon (10 October 2011) just six months after it completed a merger with Montreal-headquartered Ogilvy Renault.
The London promotions span the firm’s three global practice groups of corporate (Bob Haken, Hannah Meakin, Angelica Phillips and Emma de Ronde), banking and finance (Dan Kennedy, Rob Marsh) and litigation and dispute resolution (Ffion Flockhart, Sherina Petit). Firmwide promotions also strengthened these practice groups, with 11 new partners in corporate, 10 in litigation and dispute resolution and 9 in banking and finance.
Five of the eight London office promotions were women and almost half (44 per cent) of lawyers promoted in this year’s 36-strong round were female.
In a statement Peter Martyr, Norton Rose’s group chief executive, said: “The international spread and number of promotions is a reflection of our significant international expansion. We are particularly pleased to see Norton Rose promotions in Africa, Canada and Latin America for the first time this year.”
