Norton Rose transfers Aussie energy partner to Tokyo

Norton Rose has further strengthened its Australasian practice with the relocation of an energy, mining and projects partner from Brisbane to Tokyo.

Michael Joyce advises on projects and M&A deals in the energy and infrastructure sectors. His primary role will be to manage the flow of transactions between Australia and Japan.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “It’s all about building on the axis between the Asian markets and the increase in business we’ve seen in those deal flows. It’s part of us integrating more to reflect the needs of clients and move talent into these areas.”

Joyce is the latest Norton Rose partner to make the move to Asia from Down Under.

Australian dispute resolution head Peter Cash relocated to Singapore from Melbourne last May, while earlier this month corporate finance partner Michael Wilton left the same city to shore up the firm’s Beijing offering.

As reported in The Lawyer (1 March 2011), the firm has agreed an alliance with Susandarini & Partners that involves sending partners from Australia to Jakarta.

The moves have all happened in the wake of Norton Rose’s 2010 merger with Australian firm Deacons (23 June 2009).
