Norton Rose continued its rapid expansion of its Paris office today with the hire of Orrick tax partner Stéphane Salou.
Salou, a former managing partner for Watson Farley & Williams in Paris, leaves Orrick, where he was the head of corporate tax, after five years. Orrick raided Watson Farley & Williams in 2002 to launch its Paris office.
The managing partner of Norton Rose's Paris office George Paterson said Salou's appointment comes at the same time as a surge in the firm's business, generated by strong demands for tax advisory services.
"Today's financing transactions are highly sophisticated and require increasingly elaborate tax structures. Our clients in shipping, aviation, project financing and acquisition financing frequently consult us on tax structuring issues," said Paterson.
At Norton Rose Salou will work alongside partner Laurence Toxé to drive the tax practice. Norton Rose has also recently recruited Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer aviation specialist Glenn Matheson and Allen & Overy partner Luc Rentmeesters.
Salou's appointment means the firm's Paris office now has 26 partners, with five new partners since September 2006.
