Norton Rose pushes global integration with local champions

Norton Rose has appointed local ‘champions’ as go-to people for partners around the world if they need someone to work on a deal with.

The scheme forms part of an effort to ensure global integration following mergers in Australia, Canada and South Africa in the past two years.

The firm went live with its merger with Australian firm Deacons in January 2010 (23 June 2009), and later merged with Canada’s Ogilvy Renault and South Africa’s Deneys Reitz, with both deals going ahead on 1 June last year (15 November 2010).

It then announced a second Canadian merger, with Calgary firm Macleod Dixon, a tie-up that was formalised at the start of this year (4 October 2011).

The ‘champions’ in each jurisdiction play the role of the contact for partners who need to know who to work with on a mandate and will refer the colleague to the right person in the office.

The 1 June mergers also saw Norton Rose add pharmaceuticals and life sciences, one of Ogilvy’s strength areas, as a sixth ‘headlight’ sector alongside financial institutions, energy, infrastructure, mining and commodities, transport, and technology and innovation.

Norton Rose was not immediately available for comment.
