Norton Rose creates deputy managing partner role

Norton Rose has introduced a deputy managing partner role, appointing corporate head Tim Marsden to the position as part of a global management overhaul.

Marsden’s mandate will be to support managing partner and chief executive Peter Martyr, while remaining on the group’s executive committee.
He has led the corporate practice for nine years, alongside his role on the firm’s senior management team.
The revamp follows the firm’s expansion into Canada and South Africa after mergers with Canadian firm Ogilvy Renault and South African firm Deneys Reitz, which went live at the beginning of this month.
Marsden is replaced as corporate head by Hong Kong partner David Stannard, who becomes the firm’s first practice head based outside of London. Stannard was previously head of Asia.
In further developments, the Asia head role has been split into two, with partner Jeff Smith in Singapore taking charge of South East Asia and partner Phillip John in Bangkok becoming head of North Asia. John will move to Hong Kong later in the year.
Deirdre Walker, a former managing partner, has taken over as global head of the disputes practice, replacing Antony Dutton.
Dutton takes up a role on the new-look partnership council, which was revamped following the Canadian and South African mergers.
Sitting on the council are Jill Gauntlett, Louise Higginbottom, Mark Jones, Raj Karia, Tom Vita, Glenn Hall, Anne Lapierre, Cornelia Marquardt, Stephen Parish and Antony Dutton.
