Norton Rose completes rejig of management

The appointments are very much in line with the firm's strategy to modernise its management structure by including a number of younger partners.
Chief executive officer (CEO) Peter Martyr said: "Patrick represents traditional Norton Rose values and James our new breed of business-minded partners.
"Patrick can be described as one of those partners who, when you cut their heads off, it'll say 'Norton Rose' around the rim. I'm especially pleased to have James on board, because I set up the insurance group some years ago and James has taken it to the success I knew it could achieve."
Bateson runs the insurance group and also represents the firm in the Lloyd's Market Association, while Farrell focuses on the aviation and travel industries, advising airlines, brokers, banks and financiers.
Martyr beat off competition from Peter Rees and Jeff Barratt to take over the newly created CEO role. He took over from Roger Birkby, who stood down as managing partner. Senior partner David Lewis is not yet ready to stand down and is taking over the role of chairman.
Litigation partner Deirdre Walker has been elected as London managing partner and Barratt and corporate partner Tim Marsden have been elected global head of banking and corporate finance respectively.
Paul Giles will become managing partner of Asia and Matthias Kappus will continue in his role as managing partner in Germany.
