The tie-up between British Airways (BA) and Iberia has been rubber stamped with Norton Rose and Slaughter and May landing the UK mandates.
Corporate partners Steve Cooke and David Whittman led the Slaughters team acting for BA. The team also featured competition partner Betrand Louveaux.
Iberia turned to Norton Rose for advice on the UK aspects of the deal, with corporate partner Nick Adams taking the lead.
For Spanish aspects of the deal, Uria Menendez advised BA, led by corporate partner Juan Francisco Falcon. Iberia turned to a Garrigues team fronted by co-managing partner Fernando Vives.
Clifford Chance is acting for Iberia in merger proceedings to be heard later this year by the European Commission, with competition partner Miguel Odriozola leading.
The £4.4bn merger is slated for completion later this year after the UK and Spanish civil aviation authorities gave regulatory approval. The deal will create the world’s third biggest airline, to be known as International Airlines Group. Both carriers will retain current operations and their individual brands.
The new entity will have premium listings on both the UK and Spanish stock markets.
