Northumbria Law School boosts fees by up to 12 per cent

From September 2012, would-be barristers will have to pay £12,000 for the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), which previously cost £10,700.

Meanwhile, students undertaking the Legal Practice Course (LPC) have to fork out £9,000, up from £8,880. Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) students will also have to pay £6,500 compared to £6,100 in 2011-12.

Associate Dean of NLS Mick Woodley said: “We have made marginal increases to our professional programmes for the 2012 academic year.  However, we have made available a scholarship scheme, The Dean’s Awards, for prospective LPC and BPTC students and we are pleased to see that other providers are following suit.”

Woodley added that the law school is continuing its special discount packages to Northumbria GDL students that progress onto the LPC and BPTC programmes.

The news follows BPP Law School (BPP) and Kaplan Law School announcing tuition fee hikes (30 November 2011).

At BPP aspiring lawyers will have to pay up to £13,550 and £16,540 respectively for the LPC and BPTC in London. Currently the fees are £12,900 and £15,750.

The cost of studying the GDL at BPP will also rise by £450 from £8,950 to £9,400.

Meanwhile Kaplan’s LPC will cost £12,850 and its BPTC fee will be £15,800 for 2012 starters.

The College of Law and the City Law School are also due to announce their 2012-13 figures soon.
